Aamir Khan on his and Kiran Rao’s split: Divorce didn’t affect our relationship

Bollywood star Aamir Khan, in a recent interview, shared insights into his amicable relationship with ex-wife Kiran Rao, emphasising that their divorce did not affect their personal or professional rapport.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Khan clarified that, while they chose to part ways as a married couple, their connection as friends and collaborators remains strong.
“Divorce did not affect our relationship — whether it was professionally or personally,” Aamir explained.
“I think we felt [the split] happened organically. Divorce is a word that implies you are leaving, you are moving away. We were moving away as husband and wife, but we were not moving away as human beings,” said the actor.
Kiran Rao, who continues to work closely with Khan on various projects, echoed his sentiments, describing the collaboration as “amazing” and calling Khan a “powerhouse.”
She highlighted their shared creative vision, which she said has always been a foundation of their work together.
“The thing is that divorce is a separate topic. As creative people, we gel very well, and we like each other’s minds and we trust each other’s minds. I guess that’s why we work very well, our sensibilities are similar,” Khan elaborated.
Rao added that mutual respect is a key part of their working relationship, noting that any disagreements are approached constructively. “We respect each other’s opinions. I think that’s one of the reasons the partnership lasted,” she said.
Both Khan and Rao remain committed to their professional partnership, and have also collaborated on projects such as Laapataa Ladies.
Aamir and Kiran first met on the sets of Lagaan. After Aamir’s first marriage with Reena Dutta ended, he and Kiran married on December 2005. in July 2021, the couple announced their divorce.
